Precise 3

By the end of this week I began to focus more on my materials and how it would affect the space as a whole. I took each of my three theories and analyzed what they each really meant. After doing so I thought of each would be seen or used in my design through material. It was great because I realized that not all of my material ideas were necessary. I was able to narrow my selections down to what was really important.

Precise 2

For this week I struggled with material ideas and my conceptual design. By sketching out these five series of drawings, it helped to get ideas out onto paper and to further explore them.
-I would like to keep the original shell of the building, but redesigned the interior while bringing in elements of the orginal (as well as of New Orleans itself).
-Some materials are brick, stone, and wood. They would be incorporated into the floor, the wall, and furniture.

Krista's project review

Krista’s project is an old mill building located in Mebane, NC. It is the old White Furniture Co. mill. The whole building was recently bought by a developer and it going to be a mixed of residential and commercial spaces. Krista however wants to renovate part of the building into a restaurant that would feature a dinning space, a bar area, and a place for live music. For her concept she is playing the idea of rebirth, like the phoenix. With furnishing is mixes the original space with the modern furniture. Warm colors, like the phoenix, mixed with accents of complementary light blue. Copper is used as a modern touch, being a warm metal it is complementary to the old brick and wood. So what she is doing is mixing the old with the new. Her use of materials expresses the want to celebrate history while embracing the new.

point(s) i have for Krista
1. Further explore your idea of rebirth, or the phoenix
2. How can you better represent the concept through materials and furnishings
